DocuShare Client Installation

The DocuShare Client is a Windows application that enables you to browse, create and edit DocuShare repository information from within the Windows Explorer application.

Instructions for obtaining and installing the DocuShare Client application are available below or in Chapter 1, "Getting Started" in the DocuShare User's Guide.

Instructions for use of the DocuShare Client application are available in Chapter 11, "Using the Windows Client" in the DocuShare User's Guide.

Obtaining and Installing the DocuShare Client Application

Before you can use the DocuShare Client application, you must download and install it on your computer. The software is distributed as a self-extracting, executable installation program.

Note: Installation of the DocuShare Client application may fail if you do not have adequate administrative privileges on your computer. If you encounter error messages that warn of locked or in-use resources, you may need to have an administrator install the software.

  1. Download the appropriate file for your operating system from the list on the left. Available choices are: Windows 95/98 and NT 4.0. Save this file to a temporary location on your local computer.
  2. Locate the installation file using your file management tool. Select this file and double click on the filename to start the installation program.
  3. The installation program will ask where you want to install the DocuShare Client application. The default location (BootDrive:\Program Files\Xerox\DocuShare Client) is the preferred location for install. The program will create this directory if it does not exist. The DocuShare Client installation only adds about 200K of files to your machine.
  4. When the installation program completes, you can delete the installation program if you wish.
  5. To use DocuShare Client, you need to map one or more DocuShare servers for the client to access. Instructions for this can be found in the readme file shown at the end of installation, or in the DocuShare User's Guide section Mounting a DocuShare Server on Windows Explorer.

For all versions, please also consult the Readme text file that comes with the DocuShare Client installation for any additional instructions, notes or updates. This is available in the location where the DocuShare Client was installed.
